learned the identities of the two people who died in a plane cash. john morton jr. and his 13-year-old son kyle died. both were from stafford and died on the scene. the plane crash last night happened near the river heights mobile home park in fredericksburg. a witness describes what he saw moments before the crash. >> the engines were running, then i stay go up, and then corkscrew down. >> neighbors tried to help the victims, but it was too late. >> now to decision 2012 where we're just three days to the presidential debate. crews in denver are setting the stage at the campus arena. about 1,000 people will get tickets to the debate where president obama and mitt romney will debate domestic policy issues. the debate is set for wednesday night at 9:00 p.m., and today the president will go to nevada for campaign rallies and debeat prep. then he will visit virginia on friday. president obama is scheduled to speak at a grass roots campaign event in fair fax county. so far no details on where or what time the president will appear. the latest polls show him with a lead over mitt romney in virgi
since he and john muhammad went on a three week killing spree that terrorized the d.c. region. tomorrow marks 10 years since that shooting rampage began. malvo spoke to the washington post in an exclusive interview. will thomas is here with more. >> lee boyd malvo was a teenager when he helped kill 10 people and shoot several others. now he's in his late 20s spending 23 hours a day in a small cell thinking about what he did. he told the washington post that fellow sniper john allen it and trained him so that he would be doing anything when asked to do it. that included murder after murder. malvo says he's sorry but said there's no way to properly convey an apology to the victims' families. >> what am i going to tell them? i'm sorry i murdered your only child. i'm sorry i killed your husband. i'm sorry i murdered your wife. what do i tell the child who was waiting for his father to come home, his dad never showed up? >> malvo also said he hopes the families of the victims can forget about him and move on. he said they shouldn't allow him to victimize them for the rest of their lives. ton
that terrorized the dc area. 10 people were killed and three others hurt during the shooting spree. john allen muhammed and lee boyd malvo eventually captured and convicted of the killings. muhammad was executed in 2009. malvo is now 27 years old and serving a life sentence. and in a recent interview, malvo called himself a monster. he spoke with washington post local reporter josh white, taking responsibility for his actions. and seeming to recognize the emorm ty of his brief reign of terror. josh wright is in norway this morning and joins us via skype to talk about his encounters with lee boyd malvo. mr. white, thanks for joining us, sir. >> thank you. >> before we talk about the interview, can you kind of set the stage for me, tell me how this came to be, how you initiated contact and how you set this up? >> sure. we -- well, i had been one of the reporters who covered these shootings back in 2002. and then the trial of john allen muhammad in 2003. and as we were thinking about how to cover the 10-year anniversary, we wanted to reach out to a number of people who were involved. victim's fam

to see the world from a bird's-eye view. john, good morning. good to see you. why birds? >> they're the most amazing creatures. they're emotional creatures, far more intelligent than we imagine, and the most amazing thing is they are able to traverse a continent. they see the world as we would like to see it, from the air. >> and so less exotic, less dangerous, certainly. but what an incredible view. >> it's an incredible view. and they're obviously difficult to film so i wanted to be sure we had the technology and way of filming them that could show how amazing these creatures are. >> let's talk about that. talk about the time and the effort and the creativity it took to capture some of these images. >> well, we were four years making this. and all of the time, the technology was catching up with our ambition. so we have many, many ways that we tried to fly or did fly with birds. we've had birds trained to fly alongside micro leitz. that in itself takes a year to achieve to get birds used to flying alongside micro lites. >> a micro lite being? >> an ultra lite you call it here.
home park. 48-year-old john morton jr. and his 13-year-old son kyle were killed. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. >>> prince george's county police have just released surveillance video of a strong-armed robbery outside a riverdale business. it happened friday outside a restaurant on riverdale road. three men approached the victim asking for a cigarette. one of the suspects hit him in the face and knocked him to the ground. the fall caused him to drop his wallet and cell phone which the suspects took. the victim was treated for minor injuries. >>> there are more american deaths in afghanistan today. a taliban suicide bomber struck during a joint u.s. and afghan patrol. the u.s. troops and afghan police officers had just gotten out of their vehicles. they were walking toward a market when the bomber rammed his bike into them, detonating the explosives. three americans were killed, along with their translator, four afghan police officers, and six civilians also killed. the bombing comes one day after the u.s. death toll in the war in afghanistan reached 2,000. >>> a wh
